The song arrives while she’s a finalist in Macy’s iHeartRadio #RISINGSTAR contest, and it’s a radio-ready pop piece with some influences of latin rhythms. With a pretty infectious chorus with a lot of oh-oh-oh-oh-oh on it!
The music video was directed by Sherif Higazy. It imagery takes the viewer through a mysterious jungle on an LA rooftop and we see Stoner surrounded by animalistic dancers, each displaying eccentric and underground styles of movement.
“Back to Church” is about the darker, messier sides of ourselves. Stoner comes face-to-face with desire and impulse in a place where she is fully human and authentic without judgement.
